Ussr in Construction 1917-1937 #9-10-11-12 the Stalin Copnstitution XX Great Years of the October Socialist Revolution
Russia, IZOGIZ, 1937. Softcover. Red and golde wraps (11.75" x 15.5") Unpaginated, some tipped-in color graphics. A poor collector's copy and a great reading copy. Extremely rare, this version is in English. Designed and spearheaded by El Lissitsky (spelled Lisitsky in the credits). The issue is dedicated to the Constitution of the USSR; each of the 133 articles of the constitution is written out and accompanied by photos, statistics, quotes, and maps illustrating progress made in that area. A lengthy section is also dedicated to the Soviet Republics, with a traditional pattern, maps and statistics included for each republic. The issue includes a fold-out map illustrating industrial hubs in the Soviet Union and a great photo montage by El Lissitzky, as well as a fold-out poster of Stalin. Quite scarce in any condition. Wrappers are soiled and loose, with a few tears and small pieces missing, old tape along the spine areas but not running the length of the spine. All contents believed present.

Kamenskii, Aleksandr B., The Russian Empire in the Eighteenth Century: Searching for a Place in the World
Kamenskii, Aleksandr B.
The Russian Empire in the Eighteenth Century: Searching for a Place in the World
Armonk, New York, M.E. Sharpe, 1997. Hardcover. Green boards with black lettering on front cover and spine, 307 pp, bw illustrations. Russia's eighteenth-century drive toward modernity and empire under the two "greats"--Peter I and Catherine II - is fully captured in this new work by one of Russia's outstanding young historians. Kamenskii develops three themes: Russia's encounter with European civilization; the transformation of "Holy Russia" into a multinational empire; and the effects of efforts from above to modernize Russia selectively along Western lines. Writing in a clear, crisp style, the author enlivens his narrative with observations from contemporary literary figures and political commentators that illuminate the significance of the events he describes. In preparing this first history of eighteenth-century Russia to be written in many years, Kamenskii has drawn on the work of several generations of historians from many nations. His goal - gracefully achieved - has been to produce a readable, one-volume synthesis revealing the events and processes that were of greatest importance in transforming Russia into one of the world's most lasting empires. Includes bibliographical references and index. VG+ (museum label inside front cover) .

An Ambassador's Memories (Three Volumes)
New York, Octagon Books, 1972. Hardcover. blue cloth w/ gilt emblem & spine printing. 1,016 pgs total w/ bw frontispieces. no dustjackets. text in English. From a college library. Only volume one has removal stamp on due-date card. A few Instances of random, pencil scribbles, otherwise, volumes appear clean. "As the principal representative of Russia's greatest ally in Europe, M. Paléologue had easy access to all the major political figures associated with the court of Nicholas II, including Nicholas himself, the Empress Alexandra, Grand Duke Nicholas, the Montenegrin sisters, Anna Vyroubova, Foreign Minister Sazonov, and, of course, Rasputin. Better yet, Maurice Paléologue was a profoundly ‘clubbable' man (probably in more ways than one - he had a reputation for being somewhat bumptious) with a sharp eye, a witty (again in more ways than one) turn of phrase, and an ever-receptive ear for gossip."--Amazon. Good+ (ex-library w/ stamps to textblock edges, spine IDs & usual markings, etc. light, moisture like staining & speckling to upper textblock; appears to be no internal damage. cloth has scuffs & scratches; light rubbing to edges) .
